Mother’s Day Brunch May 10, 2009

Yesterday we went to The Can today for Mother’s Day Brunch with the moms at Aunt Gloria and Uncle Bill’s house. We also dedicated this day in memory of Auntie Nell, may she rest in peace. We had a great time. There was plenty of food, had the domino games going, and eventually the young, old schools got a game of basketball going. The day was going well, with no incidents.

After leaving Auntie Gloria’s, we took the party to Debo’s. And of course, it was on then. It would take my husband and I to cause a ruckus, however. As we were turning into Debos, Seon kind of did a slight spinout because she lives off of a gravel street. Leave it to me to suggest to him, “You should’ve done a full donut. I’ve been wanting to do that every since we got the car.” And what does my dear hubby do? He backs up and does the donut. Now, we were thinking we were the only ones outside. We didn’t see the people sitting in their cars across the street. Needless to say, they come across the street talking about their kids being outside and they could have gotten hurt. Seon apologized, saying he didn’t see the kids and if he would have he wouldn’t have done it. Of course, they didn’t want to let it go. As I’m walking up they are still yakking. I’d had a few drinks and was not in the mood to listen to it. I walk up, ready to do the Bonnie and Clyde thing with my husband. He couldn’t hit her ass, but I definitely could. Debo was walking up talking about coming out of retirment. Needless to say, nothing jumped off. Fish kind of calmed his neighbors down and we headed to the house. About 10 minutes later, four cop cars come pulling up. But the night ended well. No one went to jail. Seon admitted what he did and apologized. The cops accepted and let us enjoy the rest of our evening.

I enjoyed seeing crazy, rowdy family. I realized that I miss it and that I need to go home more often.

Photos to come soon.

Seon and I invited a few family and friends over for game night. We had a blast. In the beginning, it was supposed to be a Texas Hold’em Game Nite, but as in typical Walker fashion, we just rolled with the punches. I’d thought about cancelling due to the fact that we are supposed to be in “quarantine” around these parts. But I know I’m tired of sitting and doing nothing and I’m sure I’m not the only one. So we went on with our plans, hoping that we would not be wasting money on drinks and food. I’m glad we did. Our friends and family came and we were able to remove ourselves from the crazy world that has seemed to become enveloped in nothing but fear of swine flu. The cards games were quickly kicked to the curb because Karaoke was the showstopper. Thank you to everyone who came. Plans for the next gathering are already in motion.

Pics to come soon. That is once I’m able to get to a computer to upload them.

Homemade waffles! Yum, Yum!

Homemade waffles! Yum, Yum!

I’m so happy to be back in a place of our own. Seon got me a new waffle iron so I got up and made homemade waffles for breakfast this morning. Delicious!!! Click here for a simple waffle recipe.

More photos from our breakfast.

No complaints from Dominic

And what does Kyndal have to say?
No complaints from me either!
And last but not least, here’s a peek at Dad’s tray…
A waffle's just not a waffle without plenty of butter...

I guess this is a keeper. No more buying frozen waffles at the grocery store. Now I can make my own and freeze them. A few more pennies in our pockets and besides, they taste much better! But I’m biased! 😀

Everybody goes through changes December 21, 2008

Changes…how one deals with them determines ones outlook on life. Take me for instance. I would be one crazy lady if I wasn’t flexible and able to “roll with the punches” as the methaphor says. My life has been full of changes. Some welcomed, some not so. But I try to take them in stride.

My life, these days, have brought on more changes. The move back to Corsicana to live with my mom is the biggest. Now, looking back at our decision to do this, I can admit that our plan was well thought out. Or should I say, we thought it was. The thought in itself was a good one. Move back, stay with mom for about 8 months, save money, and then move back and buy our house. Well thought out plan right. But the best planned plans usually have cracks in them too. We didn’t consider the fact that my neice, Zariah, who’s temper tantrams can put Kyndal’s to shame, would work my nerves more than I care to tell. We didn’t consider that our living arrangements, in my mom’s computer room (the casino as she calls it due to the fact that she’s downloaded every slot machine and BINGO game that she can find on her computer and spends much of her time there, but I digress) that was transferred from a garage would be an ice box during the dead of winter and we would all suffer through colds, if not pneumonia, throughout the winter season. We didn’t consider that everyone would get used to me cooking and be expecting me to do so in the evenings after our long drive home. We didn’t consider that 8 months is an AWFULLY long time to live at my mother’s house and feel comfortable the way we would like. As I said, even the most thought out plans have holes. So needless to say, we are making preparations to move back to Funkytown. I know what you are thinking. We should stick it out in order to accomplish our goals right. That we are quitters and that we didn’t give it a chance. Well, be that as it may, we are making more changes to our plan.

Now, our moving back will definitely change our timeline for buying the house. This is the part that hurts me the most, but I will have to deal with it. When I look at it objectively, removing all of my emotions and wants from the picture, I realize that it’s the best move. Instead of rushing to a house, even with a little money in savings, we need to be completely prepared this time around. We need to be able to manage every aspect of home ownership. I don’t want us to make the same mistakes that we made the first time around. So we’ve decided to move back into an apartment for about 2 years. With the cut in money that we will be able to save since we will now have bills again, this will give us a longer time to save. It will also give Seon time to get in school. Dominic will once again be a part of our family as he should be. With our current living situation, we don’t get to spend as much time with him as we’d like and I can’t get involved with his school as much as I’d like. In the end, we think this will work better for us.

Everybody goes through changes, but we can choose to let life’s changes defeat us or work to our advantage. I choose the latter.

Happy 80th Birthday, Meme! July 26, 2008

We celebrated Meme’s 80th birthday today. Of course we had everything planned down to the last minute detail. Who knew that by the end of the day we’d have to deal with with a last minute, unexpected phone call, the cops showing up, a car fire on the freeway, and a party with no party favors!

Let me start from the beginning. We, the grandkids, were throwing the surprise party. So the plan was for Seon and I to get the balloons, banner, and birthday card. MeShawn was going to get the cake, tableware, flowers, and ice cream. We gathered everything at our house and everyone met at the Olive Garden for dinner. We were there no longer than 5 minutes when Seon’s work pager goes off. He calls in and wouldn’t you know it – he has to go to work. Needless to say, he was upset and as he rushed off, I didn’t think about the fact that he was leaving with the doorkey to the house. The same house where all of the party favors sat.

In the meantime, we stuff ourselves on appetizers, salad, and breadstics. By the time our food arrived, I already know I’m going to need a carryout. We ate and chatted, while Kyndal had everyone eating out of the palm of his hands the whole time. I order Seon Shrimp Fettacine to go and then MeShawn and I prepare to leave to setup for the party. That’s when I realize I have no key to get in the house! We try calling Seon at work, but I knew that the odds of getting him were slim because this wasn’t a typical day of work for him. I couldn’t call Bryson for the simple fact that I have yet to put his cell number into memory. So here we are. Stuck! Not sure what to do next. Then just in time, Seon calls and says he’s done and that he would be leaving in about 20 mintues. Which meant we still had at least 45 mintues to kill because he still had to drive home. So Aunt Bell and Kaye went to pickup the balloons, Dominic and I rode with MeShawn, Rachel and Brian, and Kyndal went with NaeNae, Meme, and Sheila. They going to do some grocery shopping for Kyndal since he’s going home with NaeNae for a week! :O

Now since we had some time to kill, we decided to stop by the mall – Rachel needed a pair of pants before leaving for camp this week. After getting the pants, and a new handbag for myself, we head to Meme’s. Now wouldn’t you know it, as we make the loop onto the freeway, we notice a car had caught fire. Right in our exit lane! But we were quick in thinking on our feet and were barely able to bypass it.  Seon calls and says he’s already at the house and will take everything to Meme’s and we could just meet them there. As me make it to the corner of Meme’s house, we notice several police cars coming from that direction. We pull up to the house and are told that no one could remember the code to the security system and when the security company called they couldn’t provide the correct password. (Of course, if Seon had’ve been there all of that would have been avoided because if anyone knows that information – he does!) Somehow they convinced the police that we were giving a surprise party and they left! Only in the hood!

We get everything setup just as NaeNae calls and says they are on their way. When they arrive, Meme is surprised! She never expected us to be there, so she definitely didn’t expect a party in her honor. She gushed and blushed and gave us tips on how we too could still be gorgeous at 80. All in all, we had a wonderful time, despite a few snaphos along the way. Meme never knew (well we did tell her about the cops coming) but she was so happy and excited. It was a great day!

Back Home…Again September 16, 2007

Well, B is back home! Inside I’m yelling “YAAAYYY!” I always told him that if he left and things weren’t what he expected that he always has a home here. My mama never kicked me out and I won’t do that to him either. He says that he’s not being scheduled for as many hours now so he’s not making as much money. So it’s starting to be a strain with his rent, car payment, and insurance. I’m not going to make him struggle through a situation that he didn’t create just to prevent more problems for us. So welcome back home, B! I missed ya!
